Faith Like a Mustard Seed

Faith like a mustard seed

I can still remember the first time I heard the story about having faith the size of a mustard seed. Jesus had just cast a demon out of a boy and his disciples asked Him why they were unable to do the same. He told them that their faith was too small and if they had faith the size of a mustard seed they could move mountains. In fact, nothing would be impossible for them.

As a child, I focused on the moving of the mountains and not the faith required to move them. Every time I heard that story I had visions of waving two fingers like a Jedi and moving mountains from one place to another. Instead of focusing on the faith required to do mighty things, I focused on the power necessary to move mountains.

I can also remember the first time I saw a mustard seed, a tiny little mustard seed. In that moment, I realized that the story was about the size of their faith and not about moving mountains. I realized that if I trusted The Lord, really trusted Him fully, even as little as a mustard seed, amazing things would be possible.

How many of us have faith the size of a mustard seed when it comes to our kids? How many of us are clinging to the promises of God when we find ourselves in a hard place with our children from hard places? Are we praying for our kids every day? Are we praying that God would heal them from their physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds? Are we leaning into the Lord and trusting Him for their (and our) healing?  Are we still bringing our requests to the throne of the Almighty as we patiently wait on Him? Keep the faith and keep bringing your requests before the Lord. He still moves mountains with our mustard seeds.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for always working in our lives. We know that You are with us and that you are for us. Forgive me for my lack of faith when you have proven yourself faithful so many time. Please help me trust you more.

In Jesus name, Amen

If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. – Matthew 17:20 (NLT)
